Boris Shershenev is a VGIK graduate, a stubborn Siberian, a talented director, and a real womanizer. His thesis short film won a prize at Cannes, and Goskino commissioned him to direct a full-length film.

The lead role in Boris's short film was played by Zina, an acting student with whom Boris is having an affair. Zina hopes to also star in the feature film. But Boris finds another actress. Insulted, Zina decides to take revenge on Boris—she accuses him of rape.
