Jack Scarlett and Kate Ward are a pair of Los Angeles lawyers who regularly face each other in the courtroom: he as a defense attourney with a reputation for unconventional and even outrageous behaviour, she as a prosecutor who does everything strictly by the book. Outside the courts, they have a close relationship with each other, but it becomes increasingly strained with each legal battle they fight.
